NBA Draft Rumors for April 19 & 20, 2012

Evan Fournier

Well, now it’s Adrienne Maloof’s turn. I was just told that the only female among the Maloof siblings will represent the Kings at the NBA Draft Lottery on May 30 in New York. The Lottery process – which is weighted to favor the teams with the poorest records – determines the drafting order for non-playoff teams. Sacramento Bee

Friars Have Bright Future With a Star Studded Incoming Class

Ricky Ledo, Credits Rivals

By Brandyn Smith

In the words of Terrell Owens: “Get your popcorn ready because it’s gonna be a show.”  Friartown is going to be the place to be next season with one the best recruiting classes in school history.  With the number five overall ranked class in the country, Providence College boasts one of the best young  backcourts with  sixth ranked shooting  guard Ricky Ledo who is local product from Providence.  Ledo is a pure scorer who can virtually score from anywhere on the floor.  He has the size at 6 foot 6 and the athletic ability to get to any spot he wants and make a play.  His running mate will be second ranked point guard Kris Dunn from New London, Connecticut.  Dunn is a flat out playmaker.  At 6 foot 3 he can play either guard position and has the versatility to defend both guard positions as well.   Shooting guard Josh Fortune, from Hampton, Virginia will also be a big addition because of his ability to create spacing on the floor by knocking down shots from the outside.  With the return of Vincent Council and Bryce Cotton, the Friars will not be out played in the backcourt in the Big East.  A three guard set which could see Council, Dunn, and Ledo with Cotton as fire power off the bench, these guards will be a match up nightmare for opposing teams.

Pay Me with Money, Not Pride

Dewayne Wade; Credits NBA

While this issue is basketball related, it’s a microcosm of the bigger problem running throughout all of society and I can’t differentiate between the two.  Last week, Dwayne Wade publicly made comments that questioned how shares of proceeds from Olympic merchandise, such as jersey sales, might be funneled to players.  Ray Allen had expressed similar sentiments.  He also commented that he thinks NCAA athletes should be financially compensated as well.  It’s an interesting debate upfront but it’s easy to get lost in all the smoke and shadow without stepping back and seeing the full picture.  I’ve thought about it myself some and have my own compensation plan that is more balanced and self-serving for everyone in the long run: ask for less, get more.
