The Final Four is Here

Final Four

By Erika Kincaid,

Well, here it is.  After this weekend, we will have a new NCAA tournament champion.  And it will be one of these four teams.  We’ve seen some really good, sometimes even surprising outcomes so far in the tournament, thankfully.  With any luck, the next few games will be just as hard-fought and exciting.  We have some excellent match-ups for today’s game, and some potential excellent match-ups for Monday’s championship game.  All that’s left to do now is sit back and watch.  And maybe do a little bit of speculating.

Florida is the only No. 1 seed that made it through to the Final Four. While all other No. 1 seeds went down, there is still a ton of talent remaining in the tournament. Connecticut was the last team to beat Florida, but that was back on December 2. Kentucky took the Gators down to the wire in the SEC championship game but fell 61-60. Wisconsin has been impressive as well during the tournament, knocking off Baylor and Arizona along the way. While Florida should be considered the favorite of all teams remaining, it is far from a sure thing.

There are a multitude of reasons why the Florida Gators (36-2) have won 30 straight games, find themselves Final Four participants and are currently the top-ranked team in the land. Their list of attributes could go on, and on, and on. But in the interest of time, let’s concentrate on a few of the more critical points as to why the Gators are going like gangbusters.

With so many upsets in the first two rounds of the tournament so far, it’s hard to make predictions for the next few.  Sure, there are the stand-out teams like Florida, Virginia and Arizona.  But there are a few who seem to pose a threat, none more than Dayton.  If I were to make a safe bet, I would say Florida, Virginia, Arizona and Louisville will be our Final Four this year.  But then again, is there really a safe bet?
